We are back and getting into our routine again.  The hard work everyone did to transition in those first six months has gone a long way to allowing the kids to feel more confident in school and what to expect.  They have friends they were excited to see again.  They also have friends who did not return, their families relocating over the summer months.  That has been tough, but through technology they are able to keep in touch – and it’s kind of neat to know they are building connections with people throughout the world.  My friend Ann wrote me an email towards the end of the summer saying that she would only be returning briefly to Mexico City to pack and tie up loose ends as her husband’s job required that he go back to Michigan.  Their assignment had been cut short by a year, as this was to be her last year in Mexico.  I was so happy for her.  I am so happy for her.  She is home.  She and I connected because our kids attended the same school, but we also each experienced some bumpy patches, and a hug shared always eased feeling just so overwhelmed.  She was my first ally here when I landed in this loco-part of the planet.  She was a seasoned “supporting spouse” after having already lived three years in China, she knew what it was like to be in my shoes and helped me immensely.  For that I will always be grateful.  All the best to you Ann as you transition back to life at “home”.

Miss you!

Well, with just under a month to go til summer break for us, it’s all I can do to keep everyone focused on the end goal, to keep moving through that last lap to the finish line. We are heading into exam week, which is pretty intense with tests, projects for the little ones, and actual proctored exams for our middle school scholar!  🙂   We are all so homesick for Canada.  Honestly, have never heard our own anthem so often in my life – both Caleigh and Hudson requested that their piano teacher help them learn it.  Anytime they sit to the piano, “O Canada” is played with the most heart and devotion I’ve ever heard.  Kids passing by the fridge (which is often!) linger a little longer lately over the pics of family posted there.  Wistful sighs of “I miss home” are heard often.  It’s time to go home for a bit, to recharge and reconnect…

But first we have to work hard so we have results we can feel proud of going into the next school year!  It’s an endurance test at this point, but I’m hopeful we can get the job done!

Wish us luck!!

Happy International Women’s Day!!!

Today I celebrate all of the amazing women in my life who have supported me through so much already on this journey!  Everyday I learn from you, I think of you, I appreciate you.  And I miss you!!

Today I celebrate all of the new women I’m meeting who are making life here a little easier to like.  I so appreciate the support that many of the “Mama’s” at the new school are reaching out with.  Their kindness overwhelms me.

Here is a neat site to check out with some lovely quotes about the strength of women!*click this link!*

“I wish (we) would spend even half as much time complaining about plastics in our oceans as we do about actresses’ plastic surgery.”(Bette Midler)

My hope is that we continue to move toward a much more enlightened future for women and for our world.

Woo hoo!!  Added some more Flickr photos to share. In case you weren’t aware, just wanted to note that after clicking on the photo you want to view, you can scroll down the page to read a brief journal entry for most pictures that provides some more details about what was going on.  Loving this option, as some events are share-worthy but not a whole blog post worthy.

Hope you enjoy! 🙂

Can’t believe we’ve been here in Mexico for 6 weeks now!!  Thank you SO much to everyone who is reading and sharing in some of our experiences and adventures.  I’ve been working to update the blog and have added a couple of things.  Some of you have said that you’d like some direction in how to “follow” this blog.  Along the right hand side bar I’ve included a new link so that you can follow by email – if you sign up, you will be notified when a new post is added.  I’ve also added a Flickr link, so that you can take a look at some of our photos – this is a very new addition, so I’m continuing to populate my Flickr account – be patient with me!:)  Another vertical learning curve!!

Have a lovely day! 🙂

We are a couple with a crazy sense of adventure who saw an opportunity for our family to stretch and expand our horizons! We believe that this will become an adventure of a lifetime that (one day) everyone will really appreciate!

Our adventure takes us from small town Ontario to the ginormous metropolis of Mexico City.  We look forward to connecting with other Canadian (and otherwise) expats when abroad and plan to stay very connected to our families and friends via the many social media options (a true learning curve as until now, we’ve really stayed at arms length) available to us.

This blog was born of a desire to document our journey – bumps, triumphs and all!!  Please feel free to comment constructively and we encourage any messages of support or gentle advice.

So, here it goes….

I hope that you are having as much fun being there as I am reading your blog!
This afternoon is a little STG event. A french cafe get-together for Emma and Paige as they are leaving for their exchange to France soon.
I am really looking forward to your language learning page, as I am in the process of trying to learn some Spanish.

A definite endurance test at this point to push through the last few weeks of school and work until a fun summer holiday! Opened the cottage this weekend so it is all ready for everyone to enjoy this summer. A big thank you to Enoch and Kurt for their help this weekend. Definitely a bit warmer at the end of May rather than the end of April!
