Mexican Tooth Fairy…

We’ve been dropping a few balls lately.  It’s been a little chaotic.  Thankful our heads are attached or we’d be in trouble!  Hopefully we are keeping the really important tasks straight (ensuring vaccinations are up-to-date for all four and two legged beings coming with us, feeding said two and four legged beings on a regular basis, cleaning them up now and then before parading everyone out the door to school!) because our oversights in other areas were very nearly catastrophic to the magic of childhood belief!!

Aaron’s panicked text buzzed as I was nearly home from choir on a recent Monday night.  Sitting in the car in the driveway I read it and gasped, Oh crap!!  “Caleigh is worried because she put her tooth under her pillow three days ago and the tooth fairy hasn’t come… do you know anything about this???”  Crap! Crap! She lost a tooth?!?  I’m frantically sifting through the filing cabinet in my brain and don’t seem to have filed that pretty darn important information anywhere!!!  “Oh, and  Mansell has had a tooth under his pillow for a week now and no tooth fairy… know anything about that one?”  Oh dear, I’m doing really well.  My panicked text back:”Do you have any change?”  Of course he doesn’t.  I look in my purse – nothing.  It’s a totally desperate place to be in… baby teeth under pillows, 10 pm and no change!  I rummage through the console at the front of Aaron’s car, where he often keeps loose change for coffee.  Seems he’s totally unprepared to buy a coffee also… “I found PESOS!!” I text back , which illicits an instant “Lol” from him.  He is tucked into bed already, but this is a super-blunder that WE need to fix, so he gets up, inspired by my pesos find and discovers that he still has some pesos in his briefcase from his latest trip to Mexico.  Why not get the kids started on collecting the currency they can actually spend when they are there!   It’s a little late in the day to be figuring out the Canadian exchange so we can put the equivalent of a dollar under each pillow, but we do okay and soon the teeth have disappeared (added to my growing collection) and in their place, pesos!!

The next morning, Caleigh bounces into our room, like she has so many times before to announce the tooth fairy’s coming.  This time she exclaims, “I NOW know why it took the tooth fairy so long to come… she had to visit the Mexican tooth fairy – look!!  I got PESOS!!  She had to go to Mexico to get them!!!”  Whew! Thanks to our kids wonderful imaginations, and dogged belief in magic, we totally dodged a bullet.   A HUGE Thank you to the Mexican Tooth Fairy!!  Maybe she can help me pick up some of the other balls I’m sure to drop as we move through this…. 🙂
