Today I’m Celebrating…
Ok, so I think, and research shows, that one of the best ways to survive adversity is through gratitude. Looking for that “silver-lining” even when things feel overwhelming, bleak or downright impossible. Finding some perspective when everything feels confusing and out of control will do me some good…

Today I’m Celebrating… Thai food and orchids!!! Ora held her annual Thai buffet fundraiser for San Fernando this afternoon. It’s unfortunate that it poured rain but everyone was warmed by the amazing food. Despite the rain, many of us sat outside to enjoy the beautiful garden and hundreds of orchids that are beginning to bloom in the yard.

Today I’m Celebrating… that one of my creative heroes, Hawksley Workman, has released a children’s book based on his Christmas album (one of my favourites!). He just made my search for our annual Christmas book gift for the kids very easy. The book, like the album, is called “Almost a Full Moon”.

Today I’m Celebrating…an unexpected day with Aaron! Another hiccup with the immigration process for me (I have to prove that I am who I say I am…again…) afforded us a day to visit the Canadian Embassy to try again to sort this out. A frustration made less because of the company I got to keep today!

Today I’m Celebrating… the beginning of learning Christmas Carols! The kids started learning carols today – “Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer” and “Jingle Bells”… The rule at our house is no listening to Christmas music recordings til December 1st, but that can’t apply to learning them for caroling at Christmas! (a clever and necessary way of getting around our “rule” to extend the already too short Christmas music season!) When I was singing in Lyrica choir we always spent the whole fall preparing for our Christmas show! Just loved that.

Today I’m Celebrating…creativity!! Just loved this art we saw at the mall today – we were out searching for a scale model that Caleigh needs for a math project. Was so struck by this “painting”… as I got closer to admire some more, I realized that it was created using various coloured plastic bottle caps… brilliant!!

Today I’m celebrating… my cat! This makes me chuckle because one year I tried this gratitude journal with my students, and each day asked them to think of something they were grateful for and “my cat” was the most common response, despite my best efforts to get them to think of a different idea daily. Not sure if they knew I was the cat lady that I am, but I can completely understand being thankful for cats everyday!! Mine even helps me blog!

And makes funny faces…
